Engaged!

We had already chosen a place for posed wedding photos, but I wanted day-of photos, too, for the engagement and wedding. The same company quoted way too much for the engagement photo session considering it was pretty much just the two extended families having a nice lunch together. GF went to the Wedding Show and found us a photographer to do the engagement for a steal of a price. I think it was because she didn't tell them she'd already booked a formal photo company and they were hoping to use the engagement as a loss-leader. Nevertheless, the guy showed up on time, told silly jokes to get everyone to laugh, was cooperative when people dragged him over to take group photos, and we ended up with some nice family portraits with everyone's in Taiwan and all dressed up, which was my goal for the day, anyway.

Photos were mostly taken on a Canon 20D using a wide-angle lens, some distortions in subjects near the edges of the frame but unavoidable considering he had limited time and space for each scene. Lighting was tricky, too, with dim incandescents doing most of the lights in the Grand Hyatt Drawing Room, with just enough spot-lighting to throw things off. He tried his best by bouncing the on-camera flash, throwing about a second wireless flash, and using an LED flashlight rubber-banded to the camera to act as a spot/focus light.
