花蓮海洋公園

Going to the seaside amusement park on the day that a major hurricane is due to land right on top of you was probably not the smartest idea.

Of course, I had to make us take the gondola tram to the top when we got in. Figured that with the rain coming it would be best to start at the top and work our way down back toward the entrance. Except I didn't account for the possibility of the typhoon hitting shore while we were in the gondola. Heard the raindrops pelting against the window, then the wind set the gondola swinging and the girls screaming. Note the whitecaps of the waves in the background.

By the time we got to the top, the rain was pouring down and the tram was closed for the day. Rides were obviously out, but at least the sealions and dolphins didn't mind the rain, and we could sit under the roofed pavilion.

All in all, it was a four-hour train ride and a six-hour drive back to Taipei in the gathering storm for half-a-day of amusement parkage under a pouring rain. All because GF's mom wanted somebody to babysit the little cousins. Yay fun.
